Target Audience

Heroes (We could be) by Alesso was targeted at older teenagers as a dance sound track. In the 2014-2015 charts it's peak position was 1st for UK Dance Charts and 6th for UK singles chart. This effected the making of their music video as the average age range of the actors are 19, this makes it more relate able for that aged audience.

We decided that we would do a similar idea in that the actors in the music video will be our age for our target audience. This means that the age we are looking at is 17/18.

We formed a questionnaire to understand what would be best to include in our music video.

Questionnaire- we asked 20 people and got 17 responses.

The questions we asked…
  1. Do you prefer narrative or performance or abstract based music videos?
Performance         Abstract         Narrative
  1. Do you like the music videos to have a direct relevance to the lyrics of the song?
Yes         No
  1. Is the setting important?
Yes         No
  1. Do you consider stop motion videos entertaining?
Yes         No
  1. Do you like a variety of camera shots and angles?
Yes         No
  1. Is it important how groups are represented (ethnicities/genders/ages)?
Yes         No
  1. Does the budget affect the quality of the music video?
Yes         No
  1. Does the design of the cover of the record influence you to watch/buy it?
Yes         No
  1. Do you often watch music videos?
Yes         No
  1. What type of genre do you listen to?

  1. How old are you?
The results showed us that a narrative is not always important but definitely helps with the understanding and relation to the song. The quality of the video is very important, (variety of camera shots), and the entertainment it provides.
