Evaluation question 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
Digipak
A Digipak is a book-style (often) made out of plastic case which holds a CD, DVD and holds information. In my case my Digipak hold a CD which hold the music of the album, and a list of songs which the CD will play. Digipaks became popular in the 2000's. The role of a digipak is to promote, advertise and sell the main product. Common features include pictures of the main singer, the album title, other institutions involved and selling items such as a bar code.
Research of Digipaks
When researching for digipaks for my genre I looked at the typography, pictures used and the colours.
These are a few that I focused on:
I noticed that there was a theme of colours which ran through the whole digipak. For example the top one used black and white, which I found looked very professional and meant that the writing stood out. The bottom one focused on three colours, orange, black and yellow. I also noticed that the typography style was the same throughout which kept it consistent. Pictures used where of the band, instruments/ apparatus used and the audience.
My Digi Pack
I followed the codes and conventions of the the professional digipaks and focused on three colours, black, white and grey. I used black and white as I found that is looked more professional and fitted my genre. It also meant that the writing stood out as it contrasts against the background. I used a picture of the apparatus used, the microphone with the main singers hand on it which reveals some of her mise-en-scene. I also include a picture of her face on the front cover so that it stands out and will draw attention to the album promoting and advertising the album.
Magazine Adverts
Magazine adverts are another way of promoting and advertising the main product. The are often placed around public areas such as shopping malls, town centres and near housing estates. The have to be bold and stand out to draw attention.
Research of Magazine Adverts
I focused on these two magazine adverts when doing my research as they both focused on the black and white theme which I wanted to carry on from my digipak to create consistency.
Both magazine adverts used white writing on a black background to make it stand out. They also had one main picture advertising the main singer. The writing includes the release date, and one main song which they are focusing on. The structure is very centre focused making it easy of the eye to read and understand. There is limited information on the poster , only the vital key points because if you where to pass it in the street, you wouldn't have time to stand a read a chunk of information.
My Magazine Advert
My magazine advert follows the code and conventions of the professional magazine adverts as I have used the theme of black and white to show consistency throughout both my advertising and promoting products. I have used white bold writing to make sure it stands out and catches the audiences eye. I have included key information such as release date, album name etcetera. I have also tried to make the pictures is the centre of the magazine adverts just as the processional magazine adverts to make is easy of the audiences eye, including the main singers face as the main picture.
Were mine effective?
I think that my advertising and promoting products, (magazine adverts and digipak), together promote my music video well as they all have key information and have a constant theme.
I used a program called lucid press to create my magazine advert and publisher to create my digipak.
By advertising and promoting these products in order to sell the music video and ultimately the album is called synergy. Synergy is the interaction of two or more organizations to produce a combined effect bigger than their individual contributions. The three put together, (digipak, magazine advert and music video), complement each other as it reaches three different groups of audiences.
